"Force of Hell" Teaser #2

The air outside was fresh and moist from the rain. A hedge marked the boundary of the side fence, a gate swinging in the light breeze. A shadowed figure was walking quickly down the sidewalk.
“Hey!” Alex called.
The figure ignored him.
“Hey!” He called again, walking out the gate and following the man. “I’m talking to you!”
The man began to run, his hooded head hung low.
Alex took off at a sprint, unwilling to let the man get away. In moments he’d caught up to the man, who was wheezing with laughter.
He pulled up in front of him, but he just side-stepped Alex. He grabbed the man’s sleeve, dragging him to the ground and holding them there.
“Who are you?” Alex demanded.
That same ugly grin split the man’s pale features, his hood now thrown back to reveal shining wide eyes, a swathe of stubble cutting across his chin and throat. One of his front teeth was missing, nothing but a bloody gap left in its place.
He shook the man. “I said: who are you?”
He chuckled. “Doesn’t matter.”
“It does to me.”
“You’re a goner.” The man continued to grin.
Alex gripped the man’s jumper tightly, pulling him roughly to his feet. “Are you threatening me?”
“Not me. Them.”
“What are you talking about? Who?” This guy wasn’t making any sense.
He looked up into the sky and Alex following the man’s eyes as he pointed. “Them!”
Alex could see nothing but stars in the sky. He began to think he was wasting his time. This guy was nothing but a nut who had, for some bizarre reason, taken some sort of interest in him.
“There’s nothing, nothing you can do.” The man cackled. “And I’m free! Free free free free FREE! Because of it I’m free!”
Alex pushed the man back down onto the path, walking back to the party. From the wet concrete, the man shouted after him. “You can’t escape! They came for me and I tried, but you can’t!” Now it sounded like he was sobbing. “Can’t! Can’t. Can’t...” He shrieked. “Run! Run!”
Yup. There was his answer. Crazy.
